At this point my summer was
crazy busy.
It was my job to get in contact
with Sue to get more information, but it just kept getting pushed to the bottom
of my long to-do list.
One of the biggest things was
my involvement was with the Promotional Strategy Team for the Global Leadership
Summit, for which our church home – Kentwood Community Church – is a host
satellite site.
Side note: Global Leadership Summits are pretty
amazing. Two days of listening to a
top-notch panel of amazing world-wide leaders.
You can’t help but be moved. If
you’ve never attended one, it is worth the investment of your time and
money. Put it on your bucket list.
One piece of my responsibilities
for the Summit was a lunch fundraiser, lunch orders, lunch tickets, and a
volunteer team. As I was working on
orders one afternoon, I noticed an order for Sue & her husband.
Well, now, that might just be
too easy. Maybe we could set up a time
to meet them during the Summit on a break or a lunch. A quick text to Sue, and we set a meeting up
for the latter part of the lunch break on Thursday.
But now there was just a
little bit of a knot in my stomach. We
were going to share with them our hearts based on one comment “find me a family
– even if it’s in Norway”. What would
they think? Would they think we were
crazy? Might they shake their heads in
disbelief at us getting so worked up over this story? Would they understand our hearts? Would Sue even remember sharing this with
me? Or might we find out that
considering adopting him was not even a remote possibility? Or that someone else had already started the
process of adopting him?
